Press Release Summary: The United Nations Foundation is funding the development of
over 20 global warming debate articles on Debatepedia, a pro/con encyclopedia
project of the International Debate Education Association (IDEA). The project will
assist The People Speak Global Debates contest in October of 2008 as well as the
larger public debate regarding solving global climate change.

Press Release Body: Debatepedia’s Global Warming Debates Series focuses on breaking
down the pros and cons of over twenty primary approaches to solving global warming,
such as solar power, wind turbines, “clean coal”, electric cars, hydrogen vehicles,
emissions trading, and even geoengineering approaches such as the iron fertilization
of algae blooms. These pro/con articles provide a basis for developing a
comprehensive global warming plan with the greatest strengths and fewest weaknesses.
You can find a link to the project portal on the main page of Debatepedia.

The Global Warming Debates Series will help high school participants in The People
Speak Global Debates develop plans to solve global warming. The debate contest takes
place in October of 2008. The topic is: “Resolved: the world should adopt our plan
to significantly combat climate change.” Debatepedia’s twenty pro/con debate
articles will help participants piece together superior plans, defend them, and
critique opposing plans. After the contest is over, Debatepedia’s global warming
debate articles and portal will continue to grow and serve the global public debate
surrounding the many approaches to solving climate change and developing “the ideal
plan”.
